Samick Bows Questions

How can I select the correct arrows for my bow?

I am a novice archer looking to purchase arrows for my 62" Samick Sage Recurve Bow with a 55 pound draw at 28". My full draw-length is 31". I am also shooting off the shelf with no other modifications (except for no-gloves, which I will be removing as soon as I can get a glove).

I am unsure of what length or spine my arrows should be. As I understand, shooting arrows with insufficient spine can cause the force exerted by the bow to return to the limbs (and damage the bow) or destroy the arrow itself due to over-flexing.

At the moment, I am shooting at 3D targets made of foam. I would eventually like to move on to hunting (but that's a pretty far way off).

Any help would be great.

Using a bow scale, you can find out what your actual draw weight. I estimate that you maybe pulling around 64-65 pound at 31 inches. You should spine your arrows for 10 pounds more than your actual draw weight if you are a finger shooter.

Arrows with heavier spine weight are more forgiving than lighter spined arrows.

If your current draw length is 31 inches, you should allow at least 2 inches (allow broad-head clearance past bow face and safety clearance from your hand) more for arrows with hunting points.

You should get arrows spined for 75 - 85 pounds over 33' in length.
This should be the correct arrow length you should be shooting all the time. This way there will be no change between target shooting and hunting.
